History & Purpose

グレースシティは、祈りのムーブメントによって誕生しました。
2005年、City to City※ は、東京の中心部において福音中心の教会開拓を始めるため、祈りのチームを募集しました。このビジョンに共鳴する祈りと期待が広がるにつれ、国際的な支援の輪も次第に大きくなっていきました。 ティム・ケラー牧師による「東京」についての動画はこちら
日本長老教会（PCJ）、Mission to the World（MTW）、City to City に加え、イギリスやオランダからも協力者が加わり、それぞれが可能なかたちで、時間・人材・資金・トレーニングを提供しました。神はこの祈りに応えてくださり、グレースシティは2010年ペンテコステに、毎週の礼拝を開始しました。
開拓者である福田真理牧師は、グレース教会開拓ネットワークを導き、グレースシティでインターンをした牧師たちは、東京各地で次々と教会を開拓していきました。こうして福音のムーブメントは広がり、2023年からは木村大介牧師がこのコミュニティを導いています。
東京の中心部は、コストが高く、さまざまな制約のある地域です。それでもグレースシティは忍耐強く、とりわけ教会の少ない千代田区・中央区・港区において、宣教と教会形成を続けてきました。2025年からは、お茶の水クリスチャンセンターを拠点として、与えられたビジョンの実現を目指しています。
※City to City：ニューヨーク市のリディーマー長老教会を開拓したティム・ケラー牧師によって始められた国際的な宣教ネットワーク。2024年までに、世界で2,156の教会開拓を支援し、159,037人のリーダーをトレーニングしてきました。

Grace City Church Tokyo was born out of a movement of prayer. In 2005, City to City (started by Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City) recruited a launch team to pray monthly for a gospel-centered church planting movement in the heart of Tokyo. As momentum for the project grew, so did its international support. See a video from Tim Keller about the importance of reaching Tokyo
A collaboration formed between the Presbyterian Church in Japan (PCJ), Mission to the World (MTW), City to City, and supporting organizations in England and the Netherlands. Each contributed prayer as well as time, people, finances, and training as they were able. God answered those prayers and on Pentecost Sunday in 2010 Grace City began weekly worship.
Grace City was first pastored by Rev. Makoto Fukuda, who also led the Grace Church Planting Network. Church planters who served or worshiped at Grace City went on to plant other churches in the city, contributing to the prayed-for movement. In 2023, Rev. Daisuke Kimura took on the role of leading Grace City.
Despite high costs and heavy restrictions on worshipping in central Tokyo, Grace City has persevered and continues to focus on ministry within the Chiyoda, Chuo, and Minato wards, a culturally influential area in the heart of the city with very few churches. In 2025 for the first time, Grace City will move into a location that can be used 24/7 in Ochanomizu, an area known for its high concentration of universities and stores.

Through faithful Biblical teaching and worship, to see people’s lives remade, help restore communities, contribute to the renewal of culture, respond to the suffering in society, and bring an evangelistic gospel movement from Tokyo to the world.
